Cancellations of Deeds of Trusts and Notices of Satisfaction are filed in our real estate records also. These documents are generally filed by the bank or other party to whom money was owed but has now been paid in full. North Carolina General Statue 45-36.3 requires that a lending institution or individual who holds a deed of trust to submit it for cancellation and forward it to the borrowers within 60 days of payoff. There is no charge to record a cancellation or satisfaction in North Carolina.
North Carolina law allows for a simple one-page satisfaction document to be filed.
